In this course, you will systematically learn the most important structures and expressions of the German language. You will practice making initial contact, introducing yourself, and talking about yourself, your studies, and your daily life. You’ll also learn how to communicate in typical situations—for example, while shopping, at a restaurant, out and about, in your living situation, or when interacting with other people.

In the course, you’ll gradually expand your skills in the following areas:

- Listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Pronunciation and basic grammar
- Vocabulary for daily life, studies, and leisure
- Communication in typical everyday situations
- Navigating a German-speaking environment

The course is designed for students with no or very little knowledge of German. By the end of the course, you will have acquired basic German language skills at the A1 level and will be able to communicate in simple everyday situations.

Lernziele

- Understand the main ideas of very simple texts on specific topics related to everyday life and people.
- Express oneself slowly using simple, mainly isolated phrases about people and places.
- Describe simple aspects of ones own daily life and learning in a series of simple sentences, using basic phrases, provided that preparation for it is possible and corrections and review exercises are used to reflect on one's own learning progress as well.
- Understand short illustrated stories about everyday activities described in simple words and accompanied by illustrations that support comprehension.
- Name an object and describe its shape and color, as well as describe everyday objects and people, using basic words, phrases, and formulaic expressions.
- Give information about matters of personal relevance (e.g., name, address, nationality, likes and dislikes, family, pets) using simple words and basic expressions.
- Follow language which is very slow and carefully articulated, with long pauses for them to assimilate meaning.
- Extract specific information (e.g., locations, times, prices) from a short audio or video recording on familiar everyday topics, provided it is delivered slowly and clearly.
- Find and understand simple and important information in advertisements, programs for special events, leaflets and brochures.
- Understand the structure and tasks of common German exams at the A1 level and complete them independently as well as manage one's time effectively and sensibly and set priorities by establishing clear timeframes for tasks, preparatory work, and deadlines

Voraussetzungen

No requirements
Note: All students must take a German proficiency test during the introductory week.
This course is primarily intended for students enrolled in master’s degree programs in Rüsselsheim. If the maximum class size is not reached, other international students may also enroll in the course.

Prüfungsform

Foreign language examination
To successfully complete the course, students must pass the following examinations: a written examination, an oral exam, and regular chapter tests.

Anwesenheitsregeln

Attendance is mandatory for this course. The attendance requirement is 80
%. If your attendance falls below this level, you will not be admitted to the examination.
