In this course, you will systematically expand your vocabulary and deepen your understanding of key grammatical structures. You will learn to express yourself more fluently, understand conversations better, and communicate appropriately in a variety of situations.

In this course, you will practice, among other things:

- Conversations in the Mensa (dining hall), at a café, and while shopping
- interacting with fellow students and professors
- communicating during an internship or part-time job
- conversations about studies, work, leisure, and personal experiences
- understanding and writing simple texts and messages
- important grammatical structures and idioms for everyday life

The course is designed for students with German language skills at the A1 level. You will further develop your listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and learn to communicate in German with increasing independence and fluency in familiar situations.

Lernziele

- Follow short, simple conversations and understand the relevant words and phrases, provided that the speaker speaks clearly and slowly.
- Understand basic instructions, clear and simple announcements and messages, as well as simple explanations, provided they are delivered slowly and clearly and occur in a predictable situation.
- Understand short, simple texts, emails, and letters, signs and notices as well as information in illustrated brochures, and extract information from them, provided they are written in simple language and do not contain any unexpected details.
- Describe family, living conditions, educational background, job and leisure activities using simple sentences.
- Give simple instructions, express an opinion using simple words, answer straightforward questions, and deliver a simple, rehearsed presentation on a topic.
- Produce a series of simple phrases and sentences (e.g., about their family, educational background, and everyday life).
- Express their own impressions and opinions on topics of personal interest, using basic everyday words and expressions.
- Reflect on one's own learning progress using a learning journal, digital assignments with automated grading, and review exercises.
- Manage one's time effectively and sensibly and set priorities by establishing clear timeframes for tasks, preparatory work, and deadlines.
- Understand the structure and tasks of common German exams at level A2 and complete them independently.

Voraussetzungen

Completed A1 level
Note: All students must take a German proficiency test during the introductory week.
This course is primarily intended for students enrolled in master’s degree programs in Rüsselsheim. If the maximum class size is not reached, other international students may also enroll in the course.

Prüfungsform

Foreign language examination
To successfully complete the course, students must pass the following examinations: a written examination, an oral exam, and regular chapter tests.

Anwesenheitsregeln

Attendance is mandatory for this course. The attendance requirement is 80
%. If your attendance falls below this level, you will not be admitted to the examination.
